The San Francisco Pelicans are proud members of the Bay Area Vintage Base Ball Association. One of 10 clubs, our team plays 12-15 league matches each year. The “Pels” also participate in 2-3 barnstorming events each season.

B.A.V.B.B. is a California non-profit which is registered as an educational entity as we inform the public about the great history of base ball.

Bay Area Vintage Base Ball

Played by the rules of the Spalding 1886 rulebook and strives for historical accuracy.

BAVBB in a fun, relaxed atmosphere where true grit is displayed and sportsmanship is the holy grail. Each team is outfitted in reproduction uniforms from the 1880's, and the equipment consists of reproduction balls, gloves, bases etc that are made to look, feel, and perform as they did when the game was still home-grown.

Our San Francisco Pelicans flag was a collaborative project in partnership with Brian Stokle of Fog & Gold Flag. This design is based on the original San Francisco flag from 1900 inspired by the winning flag design by John Gamble.

This flag debuted June 4th, 2023 and flies at our home matches, the Golden Gate Cup, vintage festivals and barnstorming trips.

We all agree that our current city flag needs an update. San Francisco deserves a better flag that speaks to its resilience, home and can be identified easily and flown across the city with pride.
